Internet Resources:

Idlewild website www.idlewildcommunity.org

Webmaster, Craig Sutton, csutton@idlewildcommunity.org. This is our community’s main information center. Digital (PDF) files of  Fall and Spring “IDLE TIMES” newsletters are archived here, as are PDF map images of our area. Many useful forms for IWCC members are available via links on the home page.

Facebook Groups – Idlewild Community, NM and Idlewild Friends.

Digital Idlewild – The IWCC Board of Directors intends to make more effective use of the internet for distributing information. The heart of this effort is a user-managed set of Idlewild email addresses serviced by the mass email server “MailChimp.” We ask all IWCC members to click on the big green button on the Idlewild website’s home page under “Join our Mailing list” and register or re-register a valid email address. This enables messages sent through MailChimp to reach all who have subscribed. As a registrant you have complete control over your email record. Eventually, as the community gains internet competence, US Mail costs will be greatly reduced.

Firewise Communities website http://firewise.org  This is the home page for Firewise Communities. As of 2015 the section “For Active Firewise Communities” is relevant to Idlewild, containing articles helpful to the organization of events, volunteers, and activities germane to fire-risk reduction. All of  the Firewise committee’s reporting to the state liaison will be handled through the internet.

Data Collection – Until further notice, the Firewise Representative will compile a list of Firewise activities for each year and email an annual report to the New Mexico Firewise Liaison. The deadline for collecting activity data on our end is November 1.

NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) – This page can be found by clicking on “About Firewise” at the top of http://Firewise.org. NFPA is a global, nonprofit organization devoted to eliminating death, injury, and property and economic loss due to fire, electrical, and related hazards. It is the parent organization for Firewise Communities.

Reporting Firewise Activities – Document your time and effort in Firewise-related work. Each year, your Firewise Committee must demonstrate a level of effort equal to at least $2 per capita in the community. You can track volunteer hours (worth $23.56 /hr. as of April 2016), count grants you've received, or list the value of in-kind services, hired help, or loaned equipment. If it’s Firewise work, it counts!

For your property, include the following (numbers are totals for the year):

1. Name and Idlewild property address

2. Volunteers – number of individual volunteers who did Firewise work on your property.

3. Volunteer-hours (Vol-H) – total number of volunteer-hours

4. Dollar amount of  grants, in-kind services, hired help, and loaned equipment, if any.
